Home Fragrance Oils
Our home fragrance oils are highly concentrated, so a little goes a long way. They give you the flexibility to adjust your fragrance experience according to your room, diffuser, and personal preference.
Before You Begin
Always check which type of diffuser you are using.
- Ultrasonic diffusers use water with a small amount of fragrance oil.
- Cold-air and waterless diffusers, including AromaLux, use fragrance oil without water.
- Reed diffusers should be filled with oil specifically prepared and labeled for reed diffuser use.
Using the correct product and method will give you better fragrance performance and help protect your diffuser.
Finding Your Ideal Scent Strength
Begin lightly, especially with a new fragrance. You can always add more oil or increase your diffuser setting after you see how the scent performs in your space.
Room size is only one factor. Ceiling height, airflow, open doorways, cooking, pets, and other household aromas can all affect how fragrance travels.
For the best experience:
- Start with less fragrance than you think you need.
- Allow the scent time to circulate.
- Adjust one thing at a time—either the amount of oil, the diffuser setting, or the operating time.
- Give yourself an occasional fragrance break to prevent becoming “nose blind” to a scent you use every day.
Concierge Tip: A beautifully scented home should feel inviting when you enter the room, not overwhelming while you are sitting in it.
Ultrasonic Diffusers
Ultrasonic diffusers combine water and fragrance oil to create a gentle, scented mist. They are an excellent choice for bedrooms, offices, guest rooms, and other defined spaces.
How to Use Your Ultrasonic Diffuser
- Place the diffuser on a flat, water-resistant surface.
- Remove the cover and fill the reservoir with clean, room-temperature water, staying below the maximum fill line.
- Add a small amount of home fragrance oil. Begin with approximately 5–10 drops and adjust according to the reservoir size, fragrance strength, and your preference.
- Replace the cover and select your desired mist and timer settings.
- Allow the diffuser to run for a short period before deciding whether more fragrance is needed.
For Better Fragrance Performance
- Position the diffuser where air can circulate around it.
- Avoid placing it directly beneath a ceiling fan, beside an open window, or against a wall.
- Use fewer drops in bedrooms and smaller enclosed spaces.
- Increase gradually in larger rooms rather than adding a large amount of oil at once.
- Empty standing water when the diffuser is not being used.
Cleaning Your Ultrasonic Diffuser
Regular cleaning prevents fragrance buildup and keeps the mist performing properly.
- Unplug the diffuser.
- Empty any remaining water.
- Wipe the reservoir gently with a soft cloth.
- Use a cotton swab with a small amount of rubbing alcohol to remove oily residue when needed.
- Allow the diffuser to dry before refilling.
Do not immerse the diffuser or allow water to enter its electrical components. Refer to the instructions included with your particular model for additional care information.
Concierge Tip: If you can smell the fragrance close to the diffuser but not elsewhere in the room, try changing its placement before adding more oil.
AromaLux Cold-Air Diffusers
The AromaLux uses cold-air technology to transform pure fragrance oil into an ultra-fine mist. Unlike an ultrasonic diffuser, it does not require water.
This makes AromaLux especially well suited for larger rooms, open-concept living areas, and customers who want a more consistent resort-style fragrance experience.
How to Use Your AromaLux
- Place the diffuser upright on a stable surface in an area with good airflow.
- Remove the fragrance bottle or reservoir according to the instructions included with your diffuser.
- Add Columbia Fragrance home fragrance oil directly to the bottle. Do not add water or dilute the oil.
- Reattach the bottle securely and return it to the diffuser.
- Connect the diffuser and choose a light starting setting.
- Allow the fragrance to circulate before increasing the intensity or operating time.
Choosing the Best Setting
Begin with a lower setting and shorter operating periods. Increase gradually until the fragrance feels comfortably present throughout the room.
Cold-air diffusers work best in intervals. A stronger setting is not always necessary; sometimes increasing the amount of time between scenting and resting cycles creates a more natural experience.
Your ideal setting will depend on:
- The size and openness of the room
- Ceiling height
- Airflow and HVAC activity
- The strength of the individual fragrance
- How many hours you spend in the space
- Your personal sensitivity to fragrance
Where to Place Your AromaLux
For the most even distribution:
- Choose an open area rather than a closed cabinet or corner.
- Keep the diffuser away from open windows.
- Avoid directing the fragrance mist toward furniture, artwork, or delicate surfaces.
- Place it near natural airflow, but not directly beneath a strong vent.
- Keep the diffuser upright while it contains oil.
Switching Fragrances
To prevent two scents from blending:
- Unplug the diffuser.
- Remove the previous fragrance oil.
- Use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol or witch hazel to wipe the inside of the fragrance chamber.
- Allow the chamber to dry before adding your next fragrance.
For a deeper monthly cleaning, add 1–2 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol or witch hazel to the reservoir and run the diffuser for 30–60 minutes. Empty the remaining liquid and allow the reservoir to dry completely before refilling it with fragrance oil.
Concierge Tip: If you stop noticing your AromaLux fragrance, turn the diffuser off for several hours before increasing the setting. Your nose may simply have become accustomed to the scent.

Reed Diffusers
Reed diffusers create a gentle, continuous fragrance without electricity, water, or a flame. They work especially well in bathrooms, entryways, offices, and other smaller spaces.
How to Set Up Your Reed Diffuser
- Place the vessel on a stable, protected surface.
- Pour in the home fragrance oi.
- Insert the reeds and allow them time to absorb the oil.
- After several hours, carefully turn the reeds over to help begin the fragrance-release process.
- Wash your hands after handling saturated reeds.
Always protect furniture and finished surfaces from accidental drips. Reed diffuser oil can damage paint, wood, plastic, and other finishes.
Adjusting the Fragrance Strength
The number of reeds controls how quickly the fragrance travels.
- Use fewer reeds for a softer fragrance or smaller room.
- Add more reeds for a stronger scent.
- Turn the reeds once a day for the first week then once a week thereafter for a renewed fragrance boost.
- Turn them less frequently if you prefer a lighter experience.
More reeds and frequent turning will produce stronger fragrance, but they will also use the oil more quickly.
Getting the Best Results
- Place your diffuser where gentle air movement can carry the fragrance.
- Avoid strong sunlight, heat, and open windows, which can cause the oil to evaporate more quickly.
- Replace reeds when they become saturated, dusty, or no longer release fragrance effectively.
- Use fresh reeds when changing to a different scent.
Concierge Tip: A reed diffuser provides a soft background fragrance. For a large or open-concept room, an ultrasonic or AromaLux diffuser will offer more consistent coverage.
Candles
Our 10-ounce candles are hand-poured with a custom paraffin-soy wax blend and two lead-free wicks. Proper candle care creates a cleaner burn, a fuller fragrance experience, and a longer candle life.
Before Every Burn
Trim both wicks to approximately ¼ inch before lighting. Long or mushroomed wicks can create excess soot, an uneven flame, and a faster burn.
Remove all wick trimmings and debris from the wax before lighting.
The First Burn Matters
The first time you light your candle, allow the wax to melt evenly across most or all of the surface before extinguishing it. This establishes the candle’s burn pattern and helps prevent tunneling.
Depending on the room and candle, this may take two to three hours.
Each Time You Light Your Candle
- Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Trim both wicks to approximately ¼ inch.
- Light both wicks.
- Keep the candle away from drafts, fans, children, and pets.
- Do not burn for more than four hours at a time.
- Extinguish the candle if the flame becomes unusually high or begins producing visible soot.
Allow the wax to cool completely before trimming the wicks or relighting the candle.
When to Stop Burning
Discontinue use when approximately ½ inch of wax remains in the bottom of the container. Burning beyond this point can cause the vessel to become excessively hot.
Never leave a burning candle unattended, move it while lit, or use water to extinguish it.
Concierge Tip: If your candle is tunneling, the first few burns were probably too short. Give it a longer burn—within the four-hour safety limit—to help the melt pool reach closer to the sides.
Fragrance Sprays
Fragrance sprays provide an immediate scent refresh whenever you want to change the mood of a room. They are ideal for entryways, bathrooms, guest rooms, linens, travel, and moments when you want fragrance without operating a diffuser or lighting a candle.
How to Use Your Fragrance Spray
- Shake the bottle gently before use.
- Hold the bottle upright.
- Mist two or three times into the center of the room, away from your face.
- Allow the fragrance to disperse before adding more.
For linens, hold the bottle several inches away and mist lightly. Always test fabrics in a small, inconspicuous area first, especially delicate, vintage, or specialty materials.
A Few Important Precautions
- Fragrance sprays are intended for rooms and linens, not for use on the body.
- Avoid spraying directly onto floors, furniture, painted surfaces, artwork, or electronics.
- Do not spray near an open flame.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Wipe up overspray promptly, as it may make hard floors slippery or affect certain finishes.
Make the Fragrance Last Longer
Sprays are designed for immediate impact rather than continuous scenting. For a longer-lasting experience, pair your spray with a candle or diffuser in the same fragrance.
Try using your spray:
- Just before guests arrive
- After making the bed
- In a guest room shortly before check-in
- In your car before beginning a trip
- As a quick reset after cooking or cleaning
- Alongside a matching diffuser to refresh a familiar scent
Concierge Tip: Spray lightly at first. Two well-placed mists often create a more elegant fragrance experience than repeatedly spraying the entire room.

Every home experiences fragrance differently. Room size, airflow, daily routines, pets, cooking, and even the weather can change the way a scent performs.
Begin lightly, give the fragrance time to settle into your space, and adjust gradually. There is no single “correct” setting—only the one that makes your home feel most like you.
